Lightweight Travel
To say I travel heavy would be an understatement. This is a self portrait in the Munich Airport on my trip to Austria, and those are my bags for a typical photo shoot.
I've got the airline system down to a science, I pre weigh all my bags here at the office so that I can come in right at the exact max weight allowance. It drives the airline people crazy when they see a scrub like me flash my gold card and get to check all this shit free of charge, but screw em, they lose enough of it on a regular basis anyway.
Here's the list:
Pelican Box with all my flash equipment: 70 lbs
Board Bag with my snow gear, safety gear, lightstands, etc: 69 lbs
Duffel bag with lots of chargers and equipment, few clothes: 69 lbs
Photo Backpack: 2 bodies, 10-12 lenses, misc equipment: 50lbs
Laptop Bag: Tamrac, which doubles as my flash bag when on location: 20 lbs
That's 278 pounds (126 Kilos) for my average trip, doesn't matter how long I am staying: 3 days or 3 weeks, that's the kit.
You have to step it up a notch when you are driving the Autobahn (read: Street Cred), I rented the Audi S6 from Avis (best place to rent in Munich). You can't have minivans passing you at 190kph...
